District 4 School Board Member for Brevard Schools
Matt Susin is currently the District 4 School Board Member for Brevard Schools. As a former national and state teacher of the year, he has launched many innovative and unique projects. While working in varying capacities on numerous creative and analytical projects, Matt recognized that many STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) competitions and programs were unconnected, expensive, and did not reach a wide range of students. He also saw the need for a true UAS/Drone system competition.
He decided to create a low cost broad-based innovative STEAM platform where students originate and collaborate all their competitions throughout the year at various locations with engineering support from major aerospace companies. His current project is named the Innovation Games. The games, which include aerospace companies, universities, and a majority of school districts in Florida, occurs at smaller individual locations and culminates in the finals at the Melbourne Air Show in March.
Competitions and displays include robotics, Cyber Patriot, Code Craft, UAS/Drone races, and UAS/Drone Challenges. Participating companies include NASA, Northrop Grumman, Rockwell Collins, Boeing, Harris, Space Coast Drone Center, to name a few. UAS/Drone systems challenges include RFID tagging shipping containers at Port Canaveral, 3D Imaging buildings for the school district and municipalities, and imaging depths of waterways for multiple local water districts and cities.
Please come listen to Matt layout the Innovation Games and see how they increase student achievement, align students for industry employment needs, and inspire our next generation in STEAM.
